The Nothobranchius rachovii, also known as the Rachov’s Notho Killifish, is one of the most vibrant and striking annual killifish species in the aquarium world. Males display intense blue and red coloration that rivals even the most colorful marine fish, while females are more subdued but elegant.
In nature, they inhabit temporary rainwater pools in Mozambique, where they complete their entire life cycle within a year. Their eggs survive dry seasons buried in the substrate, hatching with the return of rain—an adaptation that fascinates aquarists around the world.
In the aquarium, they prefer soft, slightly acidic water, gentle flow, and plenty of plant cover. Provide them with fine substrate for spawning and feed a protein-rich diet of frozen or live foods such as daphnia, mosquito larvae, or brine shrimp to enhance their color and vitality.
